On this relatively short hop from Frankfurt back home to Dublin, we encountered a very well-refrigerated, but completely mysterious meal, referred to by both passengers and crew alike as merely ‘the fish'.
Airline: Lufthansa LH980
Route: Frankfurt – Dublin (Approx. 2 Hours)
Class: Business
After spending a suitable amount of time drinking our way around the Lufthansa business class lounge, it was finally time to board our slightly-delayed steed to Dublin. The Lufthansa premium offering commenced immediately, with absolutely no pre-departure beverages offered nor anything else particularly luxurious before we took to the skies.
As the sun began to set, and with the famed German efficiency on full display, our meals were rapidly dispensed, with no time even to serve drinks beforehand, a simple ‘it's fish' verbal statement accompanying each meal.
Quite what fish, what the flavour was supposed to be, or anything else about it, unfortunately I'm unable to say.
It was however indeed very fishy, as well as seemingly still in the throes of being defrosted, such was the depth of coldness throughout every part of the meal. Two bread rolls each were also kindly offered, along with several drink rounds once the meal had been proffered.
After collecting our empty trays (well – in some cases, mine still had quite a bit of semi-frozen fish), another round of drinks was offered, before we all returned to sitting quietly in the cabin for the short remainder of the flight.
Overall, this was one of the more lacklustre and depressing intra-Europe business class meals. No menu, no description even, and certainly not much in the way of finesse or pleasantries in terms of delivery or execution.
